Poems

I See You

Your eyes lift up as you speak
Though your sight has lessened with the years
Your knowing eyes seem to see through everything
I see a world of experience within
I see you

Your face lights up as you smile
Each wrinkle on your face marks a hard won feat
And as a victor you wear them proudly
I see an extraordinary spirit behind the furrowed mask
I see you

Your hands come alive as you gesture
Though they are blemished by age
Your sure grip is as strong as ever
I see your untiring strength within each movement
I see you

Life has taught you to see not with your failing eyes
But with your heart
Your presence has taught me to see beyond
And with my heart
I see you
